If you are not lucky enough to receive a company car, you may have to buy your own and have it registered. A recent spate of illegal registrations has resulted in some drivers discovering that their car registration actually belongs to someone else. Get JPJ to conduct a search on any new vehicle purchase prior to exchanging papers if you are in doubt.
If you buy a car through a dealer, they will handle all the paperwork for a small fee, which varies from dealer and the motorcar company they work for. If you do it yourself, you and the vendor will have to do the paperwork together at the JPJ office. The car has to be brought together for an engine and body inspection where its chassis number and parts are checked for authenticity, amongst other things, before the approval of the registration card in your name. If the car is actually owned by a finance company, you will also have to settle any claims with them.
